Animes

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Shinji Ikari This was the first anime I've watched. The most special thing about it for me is that it was recommended by my best friend, and it is what introduced me into something more cultural and made me aware of other fanbases. I was and I'm still am an illiterate person when it comes to culture, but Evangelion started the flame of curiosity to watch and see other medias, outside the ones I was confortable with. The visuals are my favorite part of the anime. It has the unique 90's style that comes from hand-drawing the frames physically, instead of digitally, and I love it. I know that this is impossible to do in the industry now due to changes to the workflow and animators skills, but the absence of this aesthetic in the rebuilds is something that makes me appreciate even more the original anime.

Serial Experiments Lain

One of the things that hooks me into this anime is how self-aware the creators were when thinking about the internet. Lain comes from before we knew about addictions and the harmful nature of the web, and it shows it in a very unique and charming way, with very deep and melancholic views of existence.

Most people that are cronically online will identify with something in the anime. I can't really say that I've understanded it, heck, I've only watched it a single time, and it is very dense and philosophical.

Akira

This is easily the best looking anime ever produced.
